Creating 3D models from 2D pictures
Until now there was no easy way of creating a 3D model from a 2D image. Thanks to 3-Sweep that is now possible. It has been developed by researchers at Tel Aviv University. This could pave the way for a whole new method for creating 3D models for printing and ultimately design.
It relies on the human perception along with complex computing algorithms to define the object. The process works by the user identifying the object along with the relative depths. Then the software will detect the edges and creates a texture map.
The final object is then separated from the background, where the space the object previous occupied is filled in. From here, you can rotate, move and even modify the 3D model which has been created.
